UPDATE: Transformers 5, 6 & Bumblebee spin off release dates announced.
Optimus Prime and his fellow Autobots will return in several upcoming sequels.

Comingsoon.net is reporting that the 2018 Transformers film is not Transformers 6 but the much talked about Bumblebee spin-off film.
In an investor conference call for Toy Fair, Tom Warner, the Transformers franchise leader for Hasbro, had this to say:
“This summer we worked closely with a talented team of A-list screenwriters to map out the future of the Transformers cinematic universe, and as Brian announced earlier, things kick off
in a major way in 2017 with the release of Transformers 5 in June. And we’re working on a spin-off movie centered around Bumblebee for 2018 and the next chapter for 2019.”
Transformers 5 will be released on June 23, 2017. The Bumblebee spin-off will be released on June 8, 2018 and Transformers 6 will be released on June 28, 2019.
No details have been provided regarding who will be directing and writing the spin-off.

Less than a year ago Akiva Goldsman was put in charge of a writer's room whose task was to map out the next three Transformers films; as well as potential spin-offs based on the billion-dollar Hasbro toyline. Well it looks like we will soon be able to see just what Goldsman and his fellow writers have come up with.
Paramount has officially announced the release dates of the next three Transformers films. Transformers 5 will be released on June 23, 2017. Transformers 6 will be released on June 8, 2018 and Transformers 7 will be released on June 28, 2019.
Michael Bay is slated to direct the fifth Transformers film which was written by Art Marcum & Matt Holloway and Ken Nolan. According to Bay it will be his last turn at the helm of a Transformers film. At this time it is not known just what this film is about. Is it a stand alone? Is the first part of a new trilogy? I guess we'll have to wait and see when that first teaser trailer arrives later this year.
To date, the Transformers franchise has grossed $3.77 billion at the global box office.
